The Cameron Highlands are located 4 hours away from Kuala Lumpur, and according to guide books a must see in Malaysia. We spent a few days there and probably the most remarkable thing we saw there were those butterflies. We stayed in the small city of Tanah Rata which according to the Lonely Planet is a “beautiful small village where local and travelers happily blend together” (in real life it’s a surprisingly ugly small city, with so few welcoming cafés or restaurants that everybody sadly takes refuge in a Starbucks café). To be completely fair spending a couple of days there ain’t that bad, as you have decent walks in the forests surrounding the city.
Butterflies at the Cameron Highlands
People say the Cameron Highlands are the “switzerland of Malaysia”, and it is somehow true. It actually looks like a run down 60s version of a swiss resort, only with a slightly more “tropical” twist
I met mister Turtle in the Cameron Highlands. As he isn’t very tall, it was quite difficult to take a shot “facing” him, so I had to do a “blind” shooting, taking many shots and only looking at them afterwards.
